  1. excellent! many thanks, Ethan :) I'll let you know how I get on. Just one more thing then; could you do a spot of research re. Autodesk Inventor and the file exports between Inventor and Maya? (I.e. is it easy to save out the silhouettes from one to the other).

  2. Would that be the .DXF format you referred to in one of your emails?

At the time I did a quick Google and found out several things. Maya can import and export to this format, but I've also found a little tool called FBX Converter which converts .FBX format (which Maya also supports) to .DXF and vice versa. This tool can also view DXF files so I did a quick test with a cube and it appears to work fine, so I don't think we should have any issues. It does appear to only support polygon meshes rather than the raw curve data, but I don't think that should be a problem.

    1. Thanks Ethan - yes - .DXF files - so let's see what the fabricators suggest from this point forwards! Watch this space :)

  3. just a note the modellers you are referring to are polygon modellers, and if there are curves, which i can see there are, then these cut strange on any cnc/laser. you need to export to dxf, back save as R12 version which will delete any spline references and and give you a file to start from - Paul Dodd www.tradelasercutting.co.uk & www.tradecnc.co.uk - i got your email this morning thx.
